#SOL20 Day 5 “Three”

SOL20This March I will be participating in the montOld Friend from Far Awayh-long Slice of Life Challenge. Each day I will be posting a ‘slice’ from my life. This year I am using Natalie Goldberg’s book Old Friend from Far Away: The Practice of Writing Memoir to provide my sparks for memoir writing. Each post will be a quick write using one of Natalie’s exercises.

Name 3 times when it came to you clearly that you wanted to write memoir. 10 Minutes.  I noticed a pattern of emotional events when I took the time to think about it. img_7763

  1. I was reading a short story with my students yesterday, and we were talking about a metaphor that led to the understanding that even though there are bad times in your life, it’s these that make you who you are. I’ve been thinking a lot about writing a memoir about a flood when I was a teenager. It’s coming in bits and pieces, and I’m accepting them when they come.

  2. I have not thought about it this way, but your examples have me thinking about my “three”. I am going to try this over the weekend. Great writing nudge!

  3. I love reading memoirs. They’re one of my preferred genres to read, but not to write in.

Sounds like you have some important life moments that you can explore with memoir.

  4. So interesting to read. I’m not sure I could point to 3 times in my life that I’ve wanted to write memoir, so it was really interesting to read about yours.
